The belly rules the mind. ~Spanish Proverb

Well, proverb of the Spanish people….how right you are.

With my last 2 weeks (ish: I leave the 24th) in America, I have a few things on the “to do” list.

In no particular order,

  • Say hasta luego to my friends and family
  • pack (awww sh*&#!hhdsohgehoiehioh)

Wow, that was short.  Except that the thing that has really been ruling my mind, IS my belly. So mainly my “to do” list is a list of things “to eat”

So I’m an American going to Spain, AND one from the midwest…..

“Quick get me to a McDonald’s and fry me up some butter! yeeehaaww”

That my fiends is a krispy kreme bacon cheddar burger. VOMITING, but only a little

Stereotypes: sometimes they are real.

Not that I ever even go to McDonald’s or consistently eat fried chicken, but when it came to putting together my ideas for final meals I guess I realized what an inner fatty I am.

There was a lot of talk of pizza (there is a Leona’s groupon on the line here people), so that’s happening.

deep dish mmmmmcheeesemmmm

Dinner tonight kicked off this tour de gastronomy with some sausage and polenta. A hearty meal perfect for the abruptly quick season of Fall that happened today while I went sans jacket.

this is now in my tummy 🙂

Also in the queu: Thai food, Belgian waffles, southwestern stuffed chicken, and greek.

So as the weekend of Emma kicks off Saturday morning with some Hawkeye football, I will be sure to get as many re-fills as possible, load up the ice in my drinks, and make generally poor gastronomic decisions.

Next update will probably concern packing, and the reality of leaving without eating a costco hot dog.

bahahaha, just a joke.

besos

Anyplace that we love becomes our world- Oscar Wilde

Yesterday was full of love.

Wedding dress shopping with my sister, aunt, mom, Laina, and Elizabeth.

Walking around Chicago, eating, drinking, laughing, shopping, and more drinking.

I was happily situated on a plush chair. best. shopping. ever

Why am I leaving?

……

Today was full of love too. I hope of course, that all of the hearts in America go out to those still coping with the loss and tragedy of 9/11.  I know mine does.

Bears won.

Beautiful weather.

A farewell part 1 of an unknown number at my aunts in the city. Yummy food and lots of laughs as usual.

I am leaving all of this because…

Spain, oh yeah! Chicago and Oak Park have been my world for a long time now (with that 5 year interlude of Iowa City), and I’ve had a great summer here being with my friends and family as much as possible.

Oak Park is there somewhere....

I’ll keep the words of Oscar Wilde in mind while I’m in Spain. (see title)

Now the big question is: WHAT AND HOW DO I PACK FOR 8-9 MONTHS?!

xoxo

You always remember your first…….

….blog. All right, I named my blog after a wine from Trader Joe’s (a.k.a my hubby T.J),

considering myself judged

but it’s also in honor of my upcoming adventure to La Rioja, which HELLO is famous for their wine. Read a bottle once in a while. If somehow you’re reading this and didn’t know that, errrr…anyways I’ll be in that region of Spain as an “auxiliar de conversacion” /assistant English teacher for the year. I’m specifically placed in the city (probably village) of Logrono. Never heard of it? Don’t worry, neither has anyone else.

See, it's that speck within the speck of Spain

I started this blog because I had the day off from being a nanny (baller), AND was just alerted via e-mail that my visa is ready to pick up. Funny part is, I’m not ready to pick it up. I still have to apostille something, which is probably as black magic as it sounds. I’ve on and off stressed the whole summer about what will probably end up being a one minute process of someone waving a wand and putting a stamp on a bogus word document I got from the State of IL.

So please, sit tight, snuggle up, it’s pumpkin spice latte season here in the U.S and I’ve got to get my fill of that before I go.

besos a todos
