About me

Hola, I’m Emma. I graduated from the University of Iowa in May 2011. I decided that I could put off “real life” for one more year by going to Spain to teach English. One year in Logroño (La Rioja) turned into two, and I came back to Chicago to do a Masters in Urban Education. I currently teach Spanish in Chicago at a high school on the city’s southwest side. I try to document any and all of my funny thoughts, daily experiences, travels and a touch of teaching, so that I always have something to look back on, and so that whoever is reading this doesn’t die of boredom. As of summer 2016 the blog has also included my experience with double jaw surgery, so I hope that you also enjoy my take on that insane life experience. Cheers!

  1. Hi Emma, I am a friend of your mom, and I taught with her last year at OPRF. I am researching some possible teaching jobs in spain for next year and I was wondering if you could give me some advice on connecting with an international school. I know you have had a great experience and I would really appreciate if you have a tip or advice. Thanks so much!!!

  2. Hi Emma,

I hope you’re doing well. My name is Seher Keval, and I am a semi-recent college grad based in California. I am interested doing a teach/travel type program in Spain and I’ve been researching different the opportunities that are available, however, I am honestly quite overwhelmed. I found your blog through the TeachingTraveling website and was wondering if you’d be able to provide some advice/guidance. I’d really appreciate the help!
